Small repair to start hydro’s rehab

Posted by Miron Construction

During a process that is anticipated to take about 15 years, Tim Albert was hoping “for a win or two.”

The first “W” came this week.

The Ottumwa Water Works Board of Trustees approved a bid of $115,770 for Miron Construction Company for new bearings for the No. 2 generating unit in the hydro. It’s an expense that can be paid out of the water works’ budget for this year, and is the first repair of what will be a complete rehab.

“We had a couple (companies) come in and take a look at it, and they were in agreement that we could probably get at least another 15 years out of the generator if we just repaired the bearings in it,” Albert said.
