C-FC surveys voters on $14-22M facilities ask

The Cochrane-Fountain City School District (C-FC) is now surveying community members about their thoughts on potentially pursuing a referendum to upgrade facilities for $14 million, $18 million or $22 million. The School Board is expecting to discuss the survey results in early December and has to decide by January 21 whether to hold a referendum in April 2025 and how much to ask for.

Earlier this year, the district contracted with consultants Miron Construction and ISG to assess C-FC’s facilities and identify building needs. Those consultants asked some families, staff and community members to be part of a committee to provide feedback and share what the district is learning about facilities needs with the broader community, Superintendent Troy White said. Ultimately, the district identified three potential referendum amounts of $14 million, $18 million and $22 million, with the $14 million identifying critical infrastructure repairs, White said, such as roofs, septic systems and asbestos removal. It could also include upgrading some restrooms and creating more secure school entrances, he continued. The amounts over $14 million could fund other projects that need to be addressed within three to five years, in addition to educational improvements such as upgrading the technical education classroom, family and consumer science classroom, fitness area and concession stands, he said. He later added that the technical education area is currently too small for oil changes, for example.
