Miron’s Build Like a Girl event to boost young female trades workers

Neenah-based Miron Construction will host its eighth annual “Build Like a Girl” event, where 30 girls from seventh to 10th grade will get hands-on experience with the trades and learn more about construction. The event at Miron’s Neenah headquarters is meant to combat both the severe lack of female workers and widening age gap in the industry.
In 2023, only 10.8% of the construction workforce was made up of women, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. In 2022, only 3.3% of active apprentices in metro Milwaukee area were female, a Wisconsin Policy Forum report showed. Women in the workforce have grown incrementally over the past decade, but the growth is affected by different factors.
