New Menasha school emphasizes power savings
As students in the Menasha Joint School District count down to the last day of class, they’re also counting down to the opening of a new middle school.
Construction of the improved, Earth-conscious Maplewood Middle School is underway. The school is breaking barriers by being all-electric.
“So all of that energy that they’re using, that electrical energy for lighting, heating, cooling, walk in coolers, freezers, hot water systems, is all offset by what’s going to be a roof mounted photovoltaic system or solar panels,” Miron’s Director of Sustainable Services Theresa Lehman explained.
Miron Construction workers are installing a geothermal system for that energy-efficient heating and cooling. Miron leaders also say there will be so many solar panels on the roof, it’ll be the largest system on a K-12 school in our state.
