Apprenticeship signing day at Miron Construction

Posted by People

It was a special day in our corporate office as we celebrated four of our apprentices as they bridge from youth apprentices to registered apprentices. All four are signed on as carpenter apprentices with North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters, obtained through the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.

Jack Fenili will soon graduate from Kimberly High School. Jack is wrapping up his two-year and 1,000+ hour youth apprenticeship. He is currently working at the Neenah Police Training Center, Appleton Area School District Kaleidoscope Academy, and the Kaukauna Pool projects.

Charlie Goss will graduate from Menasha High School later this month and is currently working at Miron’s Yard Operations and the Maplewood Middle School project in Menasha; Jack Knaebe will graduate from Kimberly High School later this month and is currently working at Bellin Health and Titletown Fit projects; and Matt Sweere has graduated from Hilbert High School and is currently working at the Outagamie County 911 Communication Center and Fabick Cat Green Bay Facility projects. Charlie, Jack K., and Matt are all finishing up their one-year and 500+ hours youth apprenticeships.

These four will begin building their legacies within the trades as young carpentry apprentices. Students like them continue to choose the trades for the importance of the work they provide for all of society, for the rewarding profession it offers, and for the opportunity to learn and build a career.

Career Signing Day is a time for high school and college graduates to officially begin employment with a construction contractor who will sponsor them throughout their carpenter apprenticeship and provide on-the-job training. Along with on-the-job training, these registered apprentices will receive classroom instruction from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College as part of their apprenticeship. This celebration honors both graduate and contractor, providing a pivotal moment in the life of a student.

More than 20 high school students will be recognized at this event for their incoming commitment to Miron’s Youth Apprenticeship Program. These youth apprentices will start in late summer and work throughout the 2024-25 school year. In the last year, Miron’s Youth Apprenticeship program has grown more than 45% and now extends to Miron’s satellite offices.

The construction industry had 459,000 job openings throughout the U.S. in Nov. 2023, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of data released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Youth and union apprentices not only gain meaningful work experience that sets them up for success in the future, but they also add to the talent pipeline of skilled, diverse employees that innovate the workforce.
