Construction of Madison’s new homeless shelter to begin this month

Posted by Miron Construction

A years-long effort to establish a permanent shelter for men experiencing homelessness in Madison recently cleared another hurdle, keeping the project on track for construction to start this month.

On Tuesday, July 2, City Council unanimously granted the east side shelter an additional $2 million in funding, raising the previous budget of $25 million, after bids from several construction companies came in higher than city staff had expected.

The council approved filling the gap in funding with federal dollars that had been approved for a proposed affordable housing project on Park Street. That affordable housing project will instead receive funding from a different pot of federal dollars.
