Inclusive playgrounds provide a safe place for children of all abilities. Here’s why that’s important

Few things make 10-year-old Teddy Blondheim happier than playing alongside his older brother on a playground.

But this isn’t always possible. Teddy has a rare genetic disorder that affects “all aspects of his functioning,” from coordination to speech, explained his mother, Kerry Blondheim. Even though his motor control has improved over the years, he sometimes still struggles with playgrounds.

That’s why playgrounds with inclusive features — those designed for children of various abilities — are so important to the Oshkosh family.
